A little background about me - Yasmin Euphemia [Sugar] Samuels
I am a qualified glamour technician, lecturer, assessor and author in beauty training.
I have been a motivational speaker, mentor and have supported many causes, that range from skills development to women’s enrichment sessions. I managed and worked in a beauty salon for thirty years. In the salon, I planned training sessions for apprentices. I have been an independent consultant for several cosmetic companies and work within the community as a volunteer. I am the author of an academic book on preparing for beauty therapy exams, there is also a journal to compliment learning, keeping notes. I am the co-host of Support a Sis-Star Network, Podcast on YouTube, that promotes women's businesses via social media to support and expose the many talented Sis-Stars. My explanation: Before birth I was named Sugar after my father’s best friend. When I was old enough for school, my parents were so use to calling me Sugar I was automatically registered under that name. Meanwhile a diligent school secretary added Yasmin to the same register, Yasmin being listed as my first name. The register was in alphabetical order and both my names were on it. I always answered to Sugar Samuels and never to Yasmin (I was that kind of child - why would I answer a second time?) It took several visits from the school truancy officers before the authorities realised that Sugar and Yasmin were one and the same person. I started work at the age of 14 and tried to use Yasmin within the work environment but colleagues soon started calling me Sugar. It was when I qualified as a masseuse in the early 90's that it was necessary to insist on being called Yasmin. Euphemia is my middle name, also my mother’s and grandmother’s name. I decided to use this name as an author to acknowledge and in honour of the strong women in my life. A tip that should help you with the pronunciation of Euphemia - it sounds like [YOO] + [FEE] + [MEE] + [UH] Yes another name change, but they are all mine. |
